Cheap Outfit Ideas #6 - Rose Print Midi Skirt

Welcome to another Cheap Outfit Idea post and this week I am lusting over this gorgeous Rose Print Midi Skirt which you can snap up for under £15!  I love a good midi skirt as they are so feminine and you can easily dress them up or down. They look great for the office and can then easily transition you into the evening for dinner and drinks.

I spotted an almost identical midi skirt with this gorgeous blue and black rose print in Topshop this week but priced at £48.  Although I fell in love with it, I thought that it was priced a little bit steeply for the amount of wear that I would get out of it. So when I came across this little beauty I thought that I would share it with you as part of today's cheap outfit idea.

Black Crop Top £9.30 SheInside
Rose Print Midi Skirt £14.46 SheInside

For today's cheap outfit idea I thought that this Rose Print Midi Skirt would look great styled with a simple Black Crop Top like this one for under £10.  With such an eye-popping print I like to keep the rest of my look quite simple and keeping the colours quite muted.  As the weather is getting a little colder in the UK at the moment this Leather Look Jacket is great to throw on to keep off the chill throughout the season. The Leather Look Jacket toughens up the feminine style and print of the Midi Skirt.

A simple Black Leather Look Jacket is definitely a must-have for any wardrobe and will definitely be a staple in future outfit ideas posts I am sure!  Whenever I purchase anything for my wardrobe I always want to feel that not only is the piece a beautiful addition to my already bulging clothing collection, but it is important to get value for money and that you can wear the item as part of many different outfit ideas.  Although I love to purchase key pieces that may be a little bit on the pricey side, I will only spend if I feel that from a cost per wear perspective I am going to get plenty of use out of the garment.  However, for items that are more on trend pieces that I know are only going to perhaps last me one season then I always prefer to find items that are great value cheap outfit ideas.  I love it when every now and then you find an item that you love in a shop like Topshop that is a little pricey, but then you find a cheap alternative elsewhere like this Rose Print Midi SkirtLooking great and on trend does not have to be expensive after all.

#OOTD Topshop Oversized Tartan Shirt

When the days start to get a little chillier, before reaching into the back of the wardrobe for my coat I like to start transitional dressing by adding light layers and long sleeves like this Oversized Tartan Check Shirt from Topshop.  I actually purchased this shirt last winter, but I notice that Topshop have one that is almost identical on their website now.

This Tartan Check Shirt is so easy to wear, not to mention comfortable.  I tend to team it with leggings or denim and a long vest top as I have done here.  I usually also wear cozy winter boots or Converse, but seeing as it is still August I went for these Open Toe boots from Primark.  To complete the look I accessorized with this Fedora Hat from Topshop which I know I will be wearing throughout the Autumn into Winter , in fact all year round.

It feels like Summer has gone so quickly and usually I always much prefer dressing for the warmer months but this year I am going to try to embrace the cooler seasons a little more than usual.  Transitional dressing is always a little difficult to get completely right, so I think that it is important to buy pieces that you feel comfortable and snug in like I have done with this Oversized Shirt, but also try to express your own style using shoes or accessories appropriate to the weather.

SheInside Black Crop Top #OOTN

Last night we went to an Engagement Party for one of my Best Friends, so I thought that today I would post an Outfit of the Night featuring my new Black Crop Top from SheInside.  Crop tops are all over the high street at the moment and are so versatile they are a must for any wardrobe.  No belly buttons required to be on show either I promise!  They look great styled with pretty much anything high waisted.

This Black Crop Top from SheInside was a steal at under £10 so I just had to buy it in white as well, of course.  The quality of this Crop Top is really great considering it was such good value and it is super comfortable and stretchy.  I love the high neck and the cut around the arms.  I saw one pretty much exactly the same Black Crop Top recently in Topshop but it was a little on the pricey side so when I saw this one from SheInside I thought I would snap it up.  For more details on this Black Crop Top watch my SheInside Haul on YouTube.

I styled this Black Crop Top with a Gingham Print Midi Skirt that I picked up in the Topshop Sale for £25, my old Tan Topshop Sandals and a Black Quilted bag from Primark.

Topshop Joni Jeans

Topshop is my go-to store when it comes to denim as there are, and have always been, a great variety of different styles, fits and washes.  My current favourites from Topshop are my Mom Jeans, Jamie Jeans and my latest pair, the Joni Jeans.  I picked these up in the sale for just £20.  They were the last pair in my exact size and length so it was meant to be!  I have been toying with buying a pair of Joni Jeans for a while now as I love the high waisted, skinny fit and when I saw this stripe pair I thought I would give them a whirl.

Topshop Joni Jeans £20 (Sale)
Topshop Keepsake Boots
Topshop Long Sleeve Crop (Old)

Joni Jeans are super high waisted and so they work well styled with a crop top.  I dug out this old Long Sleeved Crop Top in Navy that I purchased from Topshop years ago. When wearing these Joni Jeans, as they are such a skinny fit I felt more comfortable wearing more of an oversized fit crop top and the long sleeves are a great transitional piece now that it is getting a little chillier (despite it being August!) I also wore my Topshop Keepsake Boots which I am getting loads of wear out of as they are just so comfortable.

I love the vertical stripe print of this pair of Joni Jeans as it gives the denim a different dimension. Even though the Joni Jeans are literally skin tight, they are actually really comfortable and stretchy.  I think that I am going to be on the look out for another pair of Joni Jeans going into the Autumn.

MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation Review

Today I thought I would do a review of one of my favourite foundations, MAC's Studio Fix Fluid Foundation.  Foundation is the one item in a girls beauty bag that she must ensure she gets right.  A shade too light and you end up looking like Caspar the Friendly Ghost, a shade too dark and you end up looking as if you have been tangoed.

I have to say that I have never been that adventurous when it comes to foundations.  I tend to stick to foundations that work well for me and not branch away from them.  In my beauty bag currently I have three foundations. One for basic everyday work use, one for evening wear and weekends and one for special occasions.  Estee Lauder Double Wear which is my go-to foundation when I need all day coverage for a special occasion. Double wear achieves this really well as it is a very thick foundation but this means that is not really suitable for everyday wear.  My basic everyday foundation is L'Oreal Infallible which gives a great even, long lasting base. I wear this foundation everyday as it is not too heavy but still gives good coverage.  MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation is therefore my evening and weekend choice.

MAC Foundation Pump £4.00

MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation is priced at £21.50 which is more of a high end price point but worth the investment in my opinion.  I would recommend visiting one of the MAC counters in Selfridges or one of the other department stores so that they can advise as to the correct shade for your skin tone.  Failing to select the correct shade could lead to shocking results!

If you have never purchased a MAC Fluid Foundation before then you need to make sure that you purchase the pump for easy application.  It is an additional £4.00 but once you have purchased it then providing you clean it regularly then you do not need to buy it again.  It is not essential that you purchase the pump, particularly when you have paid £21.50 for a foundation you do feel slightly miffed at having to fork out for it.  However, I find that that pump aids application as it dispenses the correct amount of liquid and actually means you waste less product because you do not need to dip or pour.

MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation is described on the MAC Website as 'combining a natural matte finish and medium buildable coverage.'  This description is actually really accurate as the finish is matte, even more so than the L'Oreal Infallible Foundation and the finish stays matte throughout the day or evening.  In terms of medium buildable coverage, again this is true as it is not as thick as Estee Lauder Double Wear but you can create more coverage by working the product with your sponge. brush or even just fingers to give the finish that you require.

My skin is quite blotchy at the moment and MAC Studio Fix Foundation does cover imperfections, but I did still require concealer under my eyes and on any red patches which is pretty much the same whatever foundation you use I find.

Now I am by no means a beauty expert or professional, just a normal girl giving advice about my experiences with products.  I personally love to read reviews of products and hear other people's recommendations before trying something new. So hopefully you found this review useful to you.  If you did, then you may also like to read my Clinique 3 Step Review or watch my Beauty Favourites Video

#OOTD Topshop Keepsake Boots and Jamie Jeans | Laurashopaholic

Today's Outfit of the Day is a really casual ensemble featuring my beloved Topshop Keepsake Boots.  You can see the Unboxing of these Boots on the Laurashopaholic YouTube Channel.

In fact, unintentionally I am head to toe in Topshop today, wearing my stonewash high waisted Jamie Jeans and a lovely little Neon Stripe Top.  I actually purchased the top from eBay which I am starting to do more and more lately.  You can get some brilliant finds at reasonable prices for new garments.  My Topshop Keepsake Boots are so comfortable and I know I am going to get so much wear out of them.  The leather is fabulous quality and so soft.  These little booties definitely live up to their 'Keepsake' name!

#OOTD Palm Print Culottes | Laurashopaholic

Today's Outfit of the Day is somewhat a little outside of my comfort zone, featuring my new Primark Palm Print Culottes and a Topshop Crop Top.  Yes, you did read correctly, I am wearing a Crop Top and I actually feel pretty comfortable in it!  It is a Basic Skinny Rib Crop Tee in Grey and is available in loads colour ways as Topshop always do so well with their Jersey Basics.

I think this Crop Top is going to work perfectly with so many of the High Waisted items in my wardrobe at the moment, like these Palm Print Culottes from Primark.  I love the monochrome Palm Print of these Culottes and both the quality and fit are great.  I have accessorized with a Chunky Gold Necklace from H&M and thrown on my All Saints Leather Jacket.

Steal Her Style: Lauren Pope

Lauren Pope from hit TV show 'The Only Way is Essex' has just launched her own range By Lauren Pope on the website InTheStyle.  Lauren's collection features pieces that are clearly defined by her own style with a mixture of feminine silhouettes and on trend prints. The highlight of the Lauren Pope collection is the Co-ordinates. There are some beautiful Trouser, Skirt, Short and Top combinations to lust over.

Co-ordinates are all over the High street and Online at the moment to see us through the summer.  With bold prints and bright colours there are so many to take your pick from.  Co-ords are great as they can look really chic and you can actually wear them in so many different ways.  Not only can you dress them up for the evening with heels but they also look great with flats or sandals for a more casual look. Good quality tailored Co-ordinates can give a smarter look for a more formal affair.  Great for the wedding guest season!

To max out your cost per wear with Co-ordinates it is important to select pieces that you will not only wear together but that you can mix and match with other items in your wardrobe.  Lauren Pope achieves this effortlessly by teaming a Sleeveless Check Top from her collection with a Brightly Coloured Midi Skirt, a Chunky Pink Necklace and White Heels.
